Connecticut Appellate Law Firm is pleased to share that Connecticut appellate attorney Megan Wade presented a continuing legal education program for the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association on June 13, 2025.
Event Summary:
Ensuring that issues are properly preserved at trial is essential for post-judgment success—and can sometimes even impact a trial court’s initial ruling.
Recognizing the importance of creating an appellate record, the CDLA invited Attorney Megan Wade to co-present a continuing legal education program for the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association. For this CLE, Attorney Wade was joined by co-presenter, Attorney Cara Joyce, and moderator, Attorney Ryan Nobile.
The CLE—Creating an Appellate Record: Issue Preservation—was designed for trial attorneys and offered practical trial strategies to build a complete appellate record and preserve issues for review.
For the first half of the CLE, Attorney Wade discussed with the participants the CORE 4 principles of issue preservation and common pitfalls that cause preservation and record issues on appeal. In the second half of the CLE, Attorney Joyce applied those principles to a hypothetical case drafted by the CDLA.
After the presentation, Attorney Wade fielded audience questions on common topics such as how to handle oral argument, how to identify appealable issues, how many issues to raise on appeal, and how appellate attorneys can help trial attorneys before appeal.
Issue preservation is one of Megan’s favorite topics to discuss and thanks the CDLA for the opportunity to present on this important topic.
