On August 5, 2025, Megan Wade presented a continuing legal education (CLE) program titled “Trial Strategies for Issue Preservation” to the National Association of Premises Liability Attorneys (NAPLA).
The one-hour program focused on how trial attorneys can protect the appellate record by applying the CORE4 framework:
- Clear Objection
- On the Record
- Ruling by the Court
- Explanation
These four principles equip litigators to preserve legal issues for appeal in a clear, reviewable way. Using real examples from premises liability cases, Megan covered trial strategies for issue preservation that apply across jurisdictions. Topics included motions in limine, jury instructions, evidentiary rulings, and summary judgment practice—all key moments where error preservation matters.
Megan also discussed how appellate attorneys can support trial counsel—both during and after trial—through record preservation consulting, ghostwriting of motions, and postjudgment strategies like motions to reargue or articulate.
